CODA wins Best Picture at Catholic Film Critics Awards 2021

The International Catholic Film Critics Association has named CODA its Best Picture of 2021. Yet it was truly an honors-even affair with Belfast winning the next two most prestigious awards, for Human and Gospel Values and Best Director, and the same number of total awards.

CODA won its honor by instant runoff voting, the same way the Academy decides its Best Picture, indicating broad support among the voting membership of the ICFCA.

Final voting featured two ties, in the awards for Best Supporting Actress and Best Documentary. Belfast’s Caitriona Balfe and Mass’s Ann Dowd are both honored for their achievements. Meanwhile, both Summer of Soul and The House That Rob Built both won for Best Documentary.

CODA also won the most awards of the proceedings, tied with Belfast. CODA’s three wins were for Best Picture, Best Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actor.

Belfast led the films in nominations with seven. CODA’s six nominations tied it with West Side Story for second place.

Peter Malone is honored by his peers as the best critic of the ICFCA this year.
