Film categories finalized for April’s first ICFCA Awards
21 January 2021
The film and acting award categories for the inaugural Catholic Film Critics Awards are at long last published, though three special categories still remain to be announced.
Along with the usual Best Picture, Director, Actor, and Actress, the critics’ circle will be voting on technical art categories such as cinematography as well.
The membership of the group also voted to award the “film that best reflects human and Gospel values.” In addition, two honors for outstanding film criticism will be given.
“We will fully flesh these out and adopt proper names for them before we go public with these three,” ICFCA founder Michael Augsberger said.
In December, the circle announced that it would follow the Academy’s deadline for film releases due to the pandemic. The Awards honoring 2020 films, therefore, will include those released in January and February 2021. Nominations will take place in March, with the winners decided in early April.
Among the more interesting decisions the ICFCA made, screenplays will be considered in one category, as opposed to separating originals from adaptations.
